Chicken in Walnut Sauce (Sacivi)

  • 2 tablespoons dried marjoram
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley
  • 2 tablespoons dried dill
  • 2 tablespoons dried summer savory
  • 2 tablespoons dried mint
  • 2 tablespoons coriander seed
  • 1 tablespoons dried fenugreek leaves
  • 2 teaspoons dried ground marigold petals
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 2 crushed bay leaves

Ingredients

    • 2 pounds of Chicken thighs and breast,  bone-in and/or boneless. Also could take skin off.

 

    • Water to fill pot to boil chicken

 

    • 1 teaspoon of curry powder

 

    • 1 teaspoon of khmeli suneli

 

    • 3 teaspoons of red pepper

 

    • 3 teaspoons of black pepper

 

    • 2 cups of crushed walnuts

 

    • 3 garlic cloves

 

    • Salt 2 Tablespoons

 

    • salt/ pepper

 

  • 3 Tablespoons of unsalted Butter

Directions: 

  • You could cut chicken into smaller pieces before or after boil.
  • Put chicken pieces into a pot and fill with water, add 2 tablespoons of salt. Boil for 30 minutes.
  • Take chicken out, cut in pieces if you haven’t already. (save the water from chicken you will need it ).
  • Put chicken pieces in a pan with 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter.

  • Brown up chicken pieces lightly, turn chicken frequently,
  • Add to the chicken 1 teaspoon of khmeli suneli, 3 teaspoons of black pepper, 3 teaspoons of red pepper, 1 teaspoon of curry powder.

  • Add  2 cups crushed walnuts, minced 3 garlic cloves and water that you boiled chicken in, just enough to fully cover all the chicken.

  • Seamer for 15 minutes, or until comes to a boil.
  • You could add salt, pepper to taste.
