This Braised Cabbage recipe is impressive. Using only a few humble ingredients, it is full of flavor.
Raise your hand if you’re obsessed with cabbage. It is seriously such an underrated vegetable that serves so many purposes! You can use it in a ridiculous amount of dishes. It is always on my grocery list because it is so versatile. I think it deserves all the glory cauliflower and broccoli are getting these days. But then again, I wouldn’t want to start a veggie war.
One of my absolute favorite things to do with it makes this incredible braised cabbage dish. It is so tasty! It combines shredded cabbage, onions, carrots, tomato paste, and butter.
So what can you do/ make with braised cabbage?
You can eat it as is. On the side or like a salad. Seriously, it is so good.

Homemade egg rolls. This would make an incredible filling!
Top your burgers with it. Instead of adding coleslaw into your sandwich/burger next time, try adding this braised cabbage.

It comes together in less than 15 minutes, start to finish. After you chop and cut your vegetables, you saute everything in butter for only 10 minutes. I’m all about quick recipes that require little effort, and this is one of them.

What do I need to make this recipe?
- 1 cabbage head
- 1 carrot
- 1 large onion
- 3 Tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
How to make Braised Cabbage:
- Shred 1 head of cabbage into a bowl.
- Chop 1 large onion.
- Grate 1 large carrot.
- In a pan melt 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter.
- Add in cabbage and sauté for 1 minute.
- Add in the chopped onion and grated carrot. Stir.
- Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of salt (I use sea salt) and 3 Tablespoons of tomato paste.
- On low heat sauté all together, stirring occasionally.
- After 10 minutes, the cabbage will be ready to eat. You may add salt to your taste if needed.
