There’s nothing quite like homemade jam. Am I right? No matter how good the store-bought version is, homemade is somehow always better. It’s delicious, and you know exactly what goes into it. Whenever I’ve got a large number of berries, apples, apricots, etc. I know exactly what to do with them: make jam for the family!
So, that’s exactly what I did this past weekend. I had some leftover apples from when we went apple picking and frankly, I was craving some warm, soft, cozy apple jam.

You know exactly what goes into the jam. Some store-bought jams are full of unknown ingredients. With this recipe, you know you’re not giving your family anything they shouldn’t be eating. If you’re watching sugar levels at home, you can always pull back on the amount you add to tailor to your family’s needs.
Did I mention how easy it is to make? Grate your apples, cook with sugar for an hour, and store! That’s it!
I love eating this jam with toast on those early, cold mornings. It also makes a great topping for things like ice cream, yogurts, and even oatmeal!

What do I need to make this recipe?
- 1 kilo of apples (about 6-7 medium sized apples)
- 1 cup of sugar, less if you’re using sweeter apples.
How to make Apple Jam:
- Grate apples on a thin grater.
- In a medium saucepan add the grated apples. Keeping the heat on low, add 3/4 cups of sugar or 1 cup if using sour apples. You can add less at first, then add more sugar to your taste.
- Keeping the heat on low and stirring occasionally, cook for 1 hour.
- After an hour turn heat off and put in jars.
